Restarting My Fitness Journey

Restarting something might be more challenging than initial starting.

Why I Stumbled

I started this website/blog to hold myself accountable in 2018. You can even look back to see on my Instagram (@runinrich) I posted all the time. Then life took over! In the last 2 and ½ years, I lost my mother to cancer, I am divorced, and we all lived through a worldwide pandemic. All this while I maintained my job of being a psychotherapist helping people with their mental health. I ran out of bandwidth, energy, the ability to take care of my physical health. Yet isn’t that what most of us do? We sacrifice taking care of our health when so many other things are going on.

Restarting…. Slowly

During the high point of Covid, I ordered a spin bike and was stoped going to the gym. Once things started to open back up here in Nevada, I committed to pushing myself never before. I found a personal training (Joey) who has been excellent. I have been working with him since Nov 2020.

Working out with Joey has made me stronger. I haven’t lost any weight OR really forced on my running. I might get out and put some miles every other week or so. But nothing consistent. As I have started running again, I screamed to myself, “I’m Slow Again.”

So I knew 2 things needed to happen, I needed to sign up for some Marathons and Half’s, and I needed to set a challenge for myself. Luckily this last week, Joey challenged me to a 75-day challenge. With that in-person Marathons starting back up, I am committed to doubling down on refocusing on my health, running, and living a richer life.

Current Challenge

Joey said he found this challenge on Tic-Tok. We have made some changes to it, and it is part of the bigger journey that I am on. For the next 75 days, I am committed to doing this:

  • 45 minutes of a workout every day
  • Drinking 4 liters of water a day
  • Tracking my calories and following my plan (each week, my calorie count will change based on my current weight) every day
  • No Alcohol every day
  • Read 10 pages a day or 30 minutes of an audiobook every day.
  • 10 minutes of meditation every day

RaceTime

I have also committed to signing up for the following races. I will be posting my training plan for how I train for running so many Marathons and Half so close together.

Fat To Fit To Fast

I am labeling my journey as going from being Fat to Fit to Fast. This is me focusing on eating right, running and lowering my body fat percentage, and maintaining. Once I have hit my fitness goals, I will be focused on building speed and hitting my biggest goal of running the Boston Marathon.

If you are reading this, make sure you follow me on social media and reach out! I’d love to run with you sometime! Thanks for the support and for holding me accountable with daily updates to my fitness journey!
